Heart of Midlothian has signed midfielder Laurent Mendy from Forest Green Rovers for a fee that could reach nearly £1m, potentially setting a new club record for the National League outfit.

Mendy was a vital player for Forest Green last season, appearing in 47 matches and helping the team finish seventh and reach the play-offs. The club captain's transfer fee is contingent on certain targets being met.

Hearts, who finished second in the Scottish Premiership, described Mendy as a "standout" player. They highlighted his "tall and physical" presence and versatility, noting his ability to play at center-half and step into midfield. Born in France, Mendy has a varied background in English lower leagues and a stint in Sweden before joining Macclesfield and then Forest Green.
