Lamine Yamal Hamstring Injury Ends Barcelona Season Early

Lamine Yamal will miss the remainder of Barcelona's season after suffering a hamstring injury in Wednesday's 1-0 win over Celta Vigo. The 18-year-old gave Barcelona the lead from the penalty spot in the 40th minute but immediately signaled to the bench before falling to the ground, clutching his left hamstring. Medical staff helped him off the pitch and he headed straight down the tunnel.

Barcelona confirmed on Thursday that Yamal "will follow a conservative treatment plan" and will miss the rest of the league season, though he is "expected to return in time for the World Cup". The reigning La Liga champions sit top of the table and hold a nine-point lead over rivals Real Madrid, who they host on 10 May as one of their remaining six games.

Spain begin their World Cup campaign in Group H against Cape Verde on 15 June, before facing Saudi Arabia on 21 June and Uruguay on 27 June. Yamal's injury is a significant blow to Barcelona's title charge, but the club can at least take comfort that their star forward should be available for the tournament this summer.
