The Irish Football Association (IFA) has announced it will not vote for Gianni Infantino's re-election as FIFA president next year, stating it is 'time for change' at FIFA. The IFA, the governing body for football in Northern Ireland, cited Infantino's failed attempt to sell a 21% stake in FIFA's commercial operations to a private investment company as raising 'fundamental questions' about strategy, governance, and stewardship. The plan was scrapped after widespread criticism, including a threatened boycott by UEFA.

The IFA had previously supported UEFA's position without formally withdrawing backing, but now says the proposal 'represents more than a failure of communication.' The Football Associations of England, Scotland, Wales, and the Republic of Ireland have already publicly withdrawn support for Infantino, who is seeking a fourth term in March. If re-elected, the 56-year-old Swiss official would serve until 2031, extending his tenure to 15 years.
