The Football Association of Ireland (FAI) General Assembly has voted to proceed with the Republic of Ireland's upcoming UEFA Nations League fixtures against Israel. The motion, passed 75-32 at an Extraordinary General Meeting (EGM), acknowledges the strong feelings regarding support for Palestine but prioritizes the impact on Irish football's future development.

The FAI executive board maintains the final decision-making power, but the EGM outcome provides them with support to continue fulfilling obligations. The association stated it understands and respects the views expressed by members and the wider community, and will continue to liaise with stakeholders to support the Ireland squad. Previously, the FAI warned that boycotting these games could cause "significant and lasting harm" to Irish football and result in a potential loss of €10.3 million.

Despite rising pressure and protests, including disruptions to a friendly with Qatar, the FAI confirmed in February it would play the matches, citing "serious consequences" for withdrawal. Both Nations League games will be played at neutral venues. Israel's home fixture is set for Debrecen, Hungary, on October 27, while the Republic of Ireland's home match will be held behind closed doors in Backa Topola, Serbia, on October 4.
