Manchester City have officially confirmed Enzo Maresca as their new head coach, signing him to a three-year deal. The 46‑year‑old replaces Pep Guardiola, who quit after a decade of trophies. Negotiations over compensation with Chelsea delayed the appointment, but an undisclosed fee—reported around £17m—has now been settled.

Maresca left Chelsea in January after a run of one win in seven league games, a spell the club described as mutually agreed. He publicly submitted his resignation, acknowledging it “opened a path” to City, and later apologised for the disruption his mid‑season exit caused. Chelsea said a confidential compensation agreement had been reached.

The hiring gives City a coach familiar with their system; Maresca spent the 2022‑23 season as Guardiola’s assistant during a historic treble. His appointment restores stability after a brief interim period and offers a clear tactical direction ahead of the new campaign. City now move forward with a coach already versed in their style.

Chelsea confirmed Maresca’s departure was a “decision not to continue fulfilling his responsibilities” and that the club received the agreed compensation. The Italian posted an Instagram note taking personal responsibility for the timing of his exit, saying it caused disruption and was not his intention. The settlement clears the way for City to begin pre‑season planning.
