Arsenal Sports Science Boss Tom Allen Exits Amid Performance Review

Arsenal's head of sports science performance Tom Allen will leave the club this summer, becoming the third member of the backroom staff to depart. Allen, who joined from Aston Villa in 2017, oversaw first-team performance across sports science, physical output, nutrition and performance support during his seven-year tenure in north London.

His exit comes just weeks after Arsenal's Premier League triumph, yet the club also struggled with significant injury issues throughout last season. Several key players missed extended periods, raising questions about the effectiveness of the existing performance infrastructure despite the title success.

The departures follow a comprehensive review involving external medical expert Joaquin Acedo, who maintains a working relationship with manager Mikel Arteta dating back to their time together at Everton. Sources indicate Acedo has exerted considerable influence over the restructuring decisions.

Allen joins head of medical Dr Zaf Iqbal and lead performance coach Sam Wilson in exiting the club as Arsenal aims to strengthen their support staff ahead of defending their Premier League crown while addressing the injury concerns that plagued their campaign.
