Manchester United midfielder Ella Toone said she will always be "grateful" to former manager Marc Skinner after he helped her through the death of her father. Toone praised Skinner for the personal support he offered during her loss, calling him a shoulder to cry on and a man who let her express herself on the pitch. "I went through the worst thing…he was there throughout it all," she said, adding that he was a good person who cared for players off the field.

On the club’s pre‑WSL media day, Toone and teammate Maya le Tissier revealed Skinner had spoken to players in the changing room on Monday before the news broke. Le Tissier described the moment as sad but hopeful, noting Skinner had given her the captaincy.

United will appoint a new manager soon, with a focus on developing young talent. Players, including Toone and Le Tissier, were not consulted. With key departures such as Melvine Malard and Gabby George, the squad remains united, calling on supporters to stand behind the team.
