Eddie Howe has stepped down as head coach of Newcastle United after nearly five years. The 48-year-old departs following a disappointing Premier League season that saw the Magpies finish 12th. Howe had previously guided the club to Champions League qualification twice and secured the League Cup in 2024-25.

"After a period of personal reflection, I have decided that now is the right time for me to step away from my role," Howe stated. He expressed that after dedicating his life and soul to the club with "unrelenting energy," he feels it's best for both himself and Newcastle to step away, recharge, and take a break. Howe described it as "the privilege of my lifetime to have been the manager of Newcastle United."

Newcastle announced that the process of recruiting a new head coach is in an advanced stage, with German coach Matthias Jaissle reportedly the favorite. Howe's coaching staff, including Jason Tindall, Graeme Jones, Stephen Purches, and Simon Weatherstone, along with head of performance Dan Hodges, will also depart St James' Park.
