Wrexham defender Dom Hyam has expressed disappointment after being left out of new Scotland manager Sebastien Pocognoli's first 28-man squad for Nations League fixtures against Slovenia, Switzerland, and North Macedonia. The 28-year-old centre-back, who has won four senior caps, was an unused substitute in Steve Clarke's squad at the 2026 World Cup this summer. "It is a little bit tough... my immediate reaction was disappointment, I can't lie," Hyam said. He has not spoken personally with Pocognoli, the former Belgium left-back appointed in August on a two-year contract, but remains focused on his club form to earn a recall.

As Wrexham captain, Hyam has played in all eight matches this season. Following the club's 6-0 defeat to West Ham United — the heaviest loss of Phil Parkinson's tenure since 2021 and Wrexham's worst league result in 22 years — Hyam and midfielder Matty James held talks with Parkinson. "He just wanted our opinions on how we move forward," Hyam said. "We've quickly drawn a line underneath it." Wrexham, currently 19th in the Championship with seven points, host ninth-placed Southampton at the Racecourse Ground on Saturday. Southampton were docked four points pre-season due to the Spygate scandal.
