Cardiff's stadium previously hosted six Community Shields between 2001-2006 during the original Wembley reconstruction. The Principality Stadium will also stage the opening match of Euro 2028, reinforcing its role as a major football venue. Wembley has seen the Shield relocated twice since 2007 - to Villa Park for the 2012 Olympics and to King Power Stadium during the Women's European Championship final in 2022.
