Chelsea's Red Card Surge Threatens Premier League Record

Sunderland and Queens Park Rangers hold the joint record for most red cards in a Premier League season with nine each. The Black Cats first achieved this in 2009-10 before QPR matched their feat two years later. Chelsea's current campaign has seen them receive seven red cards in just 28 games, putting them on pace to break this record.

Pedro Neto became the latest Chelsea player sent off during a 2-1 defeat to Arsenal. Goalkeeper Robert Sanchez, defenders Malo Gusto, Trevoh Chalobah, Wesley Fofana, and Marc Cucurella have all seen red this season, along with midfielder Moises Caicedo. Former head coach Enzo Maresca was also sent off during a win over Liverpool.

Chelsea's disciplinary issues have resulted in a red card every four games on average. At this rate, they would finish the 38-game season with approximately 10 red cards, setting a new Premier League record. The Blues have already surpassed their previous club record for red cards in a single Premier League campaign.
