Chelsea have recorded a pre-tax loss of £355m for 2024-25, the highest annual loss ever made by an English football club, according to Uefa financial figures. The loss places Chelsea second in European history only to Barcelona's £484m deficit in 2021. The Blues' financial struggles stem from multiple revenue and expense factors.

Chelsea's revenue of £511m lagged significantly behind Manchester City's £746m and Liverpool's £744m. The club's matchday income suffered from Stamford Bridge's limited capacity of 41,798 seats, the 11th-largest in the Premier League. Commercial revenue at £207m placed Chelsea 11th in Europe, £165m below Manchester City's top-ranked figure. Broadcast revenue remained their strongest area at £192m, boosted by Club World Cup participation.

Expenses tell the other half of the story. Chelsea's wage bill reached £388m, sixth-highest in Europe, while employing 1,169 full-time non-football staff - the most in England. Operating costs surged to £240m, and the playing squad's total value hit £1.52bn, the highest in football history. Chelsea maintains they remain profitable on an operating basis and expect to comply with Uefa regulations despite facing potential fines.
