Chelsea and West Ham have been hit with hefty fines totaling £625,000 following a heated mass confrontation during their Premier League clash in January. The incident erupted in added time when West Ham's Adama Traore shoved Chelsea defender Marc Cucurella, prompting a furious reaction from both sets of players.

Following a lengthy VAR review, West Ham's Jean-Clair Todibo was shown a straight red card for grabbing Joao Pedro by the neck. An independent regulatory commission found that Chelsea players behaved improperly and provocatively, while West Ham players acted in an improper, provocative, and violent manner. Both clubs admitted the charges and had previous FA rule breaches taken into account when determining the fines.

The confrontation overshadowed Chelsea's dramatic 3-2 comeback victory, sealed by Enzo Fernandez's injury-time winner. The commission noted that three Chelsea players sought to incite the crowd during the incident, which it described as "serious" and "unsightly." While Traore's disproportionate reaction was deemed the catalyst, the commission accepted that Cucurella had also contributed by inviting a reaction from the West Ham winger.
