The Champions League league phase draw has set up blockbuster clashes. Defending champions Paris St-Germain will host Manchester City and also travel to Aston Villa, while Barcelona visit the Parc des Princes. Arsenal welcome Real Madrid to the Emirates and also face a trip to Bayern Munich.

Manchester City visit Barcelona, where they'll reunite with former midfielder Kevin de Bruyne, who moved to the Nou Camp for £65m this summer. Aston Villa, returning to the competition, host PSG and Borussia Dortmund. Manchester United face Bayern Munich, Atletico Madrid, and Roma.

Liverpool travel to Inter Milan and host Atletico Madrid. The league phase runs from September 8 to January 27, with the final in Madrid on June 5. Teams finishing in the top eight automatically advance to the last 16; those placed ninth to 24th enter a playoff.

The bottom 12 are eliminated. Last season, Arsenal topped the standings with 24 points, while PSG won the title, beating Arsenal in the final. Highlights will be available on BBC iPlayer and the BBC Sport website from 22:00 on Wednesday.
