Celtic have moved to address their dead-ball deficiencies by appointing Ross Grant as set-piece coach. The lifelong Parkhead fan joins from Hearts after four years at Dundee United, bringing expertise that helped the Edinburgh side reach last season's title decider. Grant will focus specifically on set-piece analysis and coaching, according to the Scottish champions.

Hearts' remarkable campaign saw them lead the league in set-piece efficiency, scoring 23 goals from dead-ball situations - more than any other Premiership team. Sixteen of those came from corners alone, while only Rangers matched their overall tally. The Tynecastle outfit also dominated aerial duels and created the most set-play chances, with Stuart Findlay and Claudio Braga each netting five headers.

Celtic's set-piece record paled in comparison, managing just six corner goals compared to Hearts' league-high 16. Their defensive record was solid though, conceding only nine set-piece goals - better than all but two teams. Martin O'Neill praised Grant's credentials, though questions remain about how much influence he'll have on recruitment.

With Arne Engels and Daizen Maeda potentially departing, Celtic risk losing players who contributed significantly to their set-piece output. Grant's arrival represents smart business for a club needing marginal gains in a competitive title race.
