Glasgow City Council has declared organised fanzones for trophy celebrations unaffordable, shifting financial responsibility to clubs themselves. This stance follows violent clashes in the Trongate area after Celtic's SPFL title win, where two officers were seriously injured and 14 arrests made. The council cited a decades-long pattern of ad hoc festivities, noting attendance was 'significantly down' this year but damage still occurred.

Local businesses, however, supported the idea of a sanctioned venue like Glasgow Green to contain revelry and protect commerce. The Tron Theatre alone estimated £8,500 in lost revenue and cleanup costs from Sunday's mess, with its exterior left 'like a public toilet.' Nearby shop workers described the gatherings as intimidating for non-fans, arguing a dedicated space would allow celebration without neighbourhood disruption.

MSP Paul Sweeney criticised the council's 'lack of leadership,' suggesting proactive planning for future victories. Yet the council dismissed the fanzone concept as impractical, arguing those intent on vandalism—such as throwing bottles at emergency services—would not attend a regulated event. With no response from Celtic, the stalemate leaves the city facing another inevitable 'ad hoc' celebration, balancing public safety against the financial burden of sanctioned festivities.
