Just over a month after retiring from tennis, Roberto Bautista Agut has returned to competitive sport – this time on a football pitch. The 38‑year‑old former Wimbledon semi‑finalist signed for Spanish seventh‑tier side CD Els Ibarsos and scored twice in a 4‑2 win on his pre‑season debut.

His tennis career featured 12 singles title wins and a Davis Cup triumph with Spain in 2019. The Spaniard’s powerful forehand and left‑y footwork on court translate into a strong presence on the pitch.

"It’s a new stage of life that makes me very happy," Bautista Agut said on Instagram, adding, "May the good start continue!"

CD Els Ibarsos welcomed him to fans before the match and expressed excitement about watching him play a whole season. The club highlighted the trust he has placed in the project and the town’s support.
