Sheffield Wednesday captain Barry Bannan wants to leave the club, manager Henrik Pedersen confirmed. The 36-year-old midfielder was given a standing ovation in the 2-0 defeat at Bristol City, a match widely expected to be his final appearance for the Owls after over a decade of service.

Bannan, who has made 435 league appearances for Wednesday, has been strongly linked with a move to Millwall. Pedersen did not confirm if a medical had been arranged but said the player and his representatives are in talks with the club to find a solution. Bannan had informed his teammates of his decision earlier in the week.

The emotional farewell at Ashton Gate saw fans from both sides applaud the departing captain. Pedersen expressed his respect for Bannan's leadership during a difficult period for the club, which has been in administration since October. The manager now faces a transfer window where several other players, including Yan Valery, also face uncertain futures.
