Barnsley head coach Conor Hourihane will depart the club at the end of the 2024-25 season following a mutual agreement. The former Aston Villa and Derby County midfielder, who took charge on an interim basis in March 2025 after Darrell Clarke’s sacking, has seen the team struggle to 12th place in League One, 12 points adrift of play-off contention. The club emphasized that the decision stemmed from “honest conversations” aimed at securing a “fresh start” for both parties ahead of the 2026-27 campaign.

Hourihane’s two-year contract, signed in April 2025, will reportedly be terminated early, though terms remain confidential.
