Barcelona have offered support to the family of a worker who died during renovations at the club's Nou Camp stadium. The 54-year-old man is believed to have died as a result of "a blow" while working on the redevelopment on Friday, Catalan regional police said. Emergency services were called to the stadium, which is having its capacity increased to 105,000, but were unable to save his life. An investigation into the incident is under way.

"FC Barcelona deeply regrets the death of the worker who lost his life yesterday in the workplace accident that occurred during the renovation works at Spotify Camp Nou," said the Catalan club. "The club wishes to express its deepest condolences and extend its heartfelt support to his family, friends, and colleagues."

FC Barcelona president Joan Laporta wishes to personally convey his condolences to the family and places himself at their disposal on behalf of the entire club. Work at the stadium began in June 2023 and is expected to be completed in early 2028.
