Aston Villa have completed the signings of goalkeeper Zion Suzuki and left-back Matteo Ruggeri. Japan international Suzuki joins from Parma for around £30m, while Italian full-back Ruggeri arrives from Atletico Madrid for £17m.

Suzuki, 23, becomes Villa's long-term goalkeeper option despite Emi Martinez's collapsed move to Juventus. The Argentine, who helped Villa win the Europa League in May, now faces an uncertain future.

Ruggeri, 24, replaces Lucas Digne who joined Paris St-Germain on 9 August. A Europa League winner with Atalanta in 2024, he made over 100 appearances for the Italian side before moving to Atletico last summer.

Both players could debut in Sunday's Premier League opener against Brighton. Suzuki's former coach Dennis Rudel compared the goalkeeper to Asterix, praising his power and potential to become one of the world's best keepers.
