Anderson's Emotional Equaliser Secures Forest Survival

Elliot Anderson rescued a point for Nottingham Forest with a 95th-minute equaliser against Newcastle just two days after attending his mother's funeral. The midfielder travelled back from the north east of England on Friday following the service, a day after Forest's Europa League semi-final exit to Aston Villa, to produce a moment of magic that secured Premier League survival when Arsenal beat West Ham.

Manager Vitor Pereira praised his player's extraordinary courage: "I believe he honours his mother, going on the pitch and running until the last breath." Anderson has scored four goals this season, including a strike in the 5-0 win at Sunderland last month, and has become an England regular with seven caps - certain to start at the World Cup under Thomas Tuchel.

The result leaves Forest safe, but the club faces an uphill battle to keep their star player. Manchester United and Manchester City have Anderson high on their summer wanted list, and former Newcastle boss Eddie Howe admitted the £35m deal in 2024 was "probably the most reluctant transfer I have ever done" - with no buy-back or sell-on clause included. "It's painful for us to take, but he's an outstanding player," Howe said.
