Aerial Fantasy WSL Fan League to Close After Season, Impacting Women's Football Community

The popular unofficial fantasy football league Aerial Fantasy, dedicated to England's Women's Super League (WSL), will cease operations at the end of the current season. Co-founder Dani Gonçalves announced the closure due to unsustainable costs and the inability to secure official status or funding. The league, which grew to over 30,000 users since launching in 2023, struggled financially despite its popularity and the community it fostered.

Gonçalves stated efforts to become an official WSL partner failed, and brands proved reluctant to support an unofficial platform. While the league's shutdown is a blow, Gonçalves emphasized the positive impact on women's football, noting it drew new fans to the WSL and strengthened the fan community. The WSL itself is reportedly developing its own official fantasy product for the 2026-27 season.
