Azure's Core Architecture Explained

Microsoft Azure divides its core architecture into physical infrastructure and management infrastructure. The physical layer includes global Azure Regions, which group data centers to reduce latency and meet data sovereignty laws. Availability Zones provide further resilience with independent power and networking within a region.

For disaster recovery, Region Pairs link regions within the same geography, like Australia East and Southeast. This setup allows failover and helps meet compliance. Sovereign Regions, such as US Gov Virginia, offer isolated environments for regulated industries. These components ensure reliable, scalable cloud services worldwide.

The management side organizes resources through Azure Resource Groups, which bundle related services for deployment and cost tracking. Subscriptions serve as billing and access boundaries, while Management Groups enable hierarchical governance across multiple subscriptions. Together, they provide the control needed for enterprise-scale cloud operations.
