Adams Street Raises Over $5bn for Secondaries Fund

Adams Street Partners has raised more than $5bn in capital commitments for its latest Secondaries Investment Program, anchored by the close of Global Secondary Fund 8 at $2.7bn. The close comes as the broader secondaries market clears $200bn in total capital raised, signaling sustained investor appetite despite challenging conditions across private markets. Secondaries has been one of the few corners of private markets where limited partners have been willing to write larger cheques, largely because it solves the problem they are living with elsewhere.

Distributions from buyout portfolios have slowed, exit routes remain narrow, and secondaries offer a way to recycle capital without waiting for sponsors to sell. Rising transaction volumes highlight the growing role of secondaries as a liquidity and portfolio management tool for private markets participants, said Jeff Akers, Partner and Head of Secondary Investments at Adams Street Partners. The firm's ability to attract significant commitments underscores the strategy's appeal as investors seek flexible capital deployment options amid tightening exit windows and slower buyout distributions.

The fund's scale positions Adams Street to capture opportunities across a broad range of secondary transactions, from direct portfolio company purchases to fund-level retransfers.
