Blackmagic Design has expanded DaVinci Resolve beyond video editing with Photo page, a new feature in version 21 that directly challenges Adobe Lightroom. The Australian company unveiled the beta at NAB 2026, allowing users to import, manage, and color-correct still images using the powerful node-based Color page. This move follows growing adoption of Resolve for video editing, positioning it as an all-in-one creative solution.

The Photo page offers sophisticated editing capabilities including RAW file support, complex grade building with node workflows, and real-time LightBox album viewing. Professional photographers benefit from camera tethering with Sony and Canon devices, while AI tools like Magic Mask enable one-click object selections. Most features appear in the free version, though the $295 Studio edition includes AI Magic Mask and Film Look Creator.

Resolve 21 also introduces AI video tools: Face Age Transformer adds wrinkles based on subject age, Face Reshaper modifies facial features, and UltraSharpen improves focus. These features complement existing capabilities like Fusion VFX on still images and VR export options. Blackmagic continues its trend of offering professional-grade tools at accessible price points, potentially disrupting Adobe's dominance in creative software.
