Valve has announced pricing for its new wireless VR headset, the Steam Frame, starting at $1,059 for the 256GB model and $1,299 for the 1TB version. Powered by the Snapdragon 8 Gen 3 and 16GB RAM, the device runs Steam OS and supports native PC VR titles as well as wireless PC streaming via a bundled 6GHz dongle. A key differentiator is support for Android games, allowing developers to port existing Android APKs without building separate versions, potentially granting access to a vast library similar to the Meta Quest.

Each headset includes tracked controllers and a copy of Half-Life: Alyx. The device also features a microSD slot for storage expansion. Valve originally targeted a sub-$999 price point to undercut the Index, but rising component costs pushed the price higher.

Availability will be managed through a reservation system, with sign-ups open until September 17 and purchase invitations beginning September 18. Valve is positioning the Frame as a premium hybrid device, betting on its Steam library integration and Android compatibility to justify the cost.
