Trump Announces Temporary Beef Import Boost to Lower Prices

President Trump announced a plan to temporarily allow more foreign beef imports into the U.S. without paying higher tariffs, aiming to ease rising beef prices for American shoppers.

In a social-media post on Friday, Trump said the administration will allow up to 300,000 metric tons of ground beef to be imported over the next 90 days without triggering higher tariff rates. He stated there is a commitment that this beef will be sold at 25 percent below current market prices.

The move comes as beef prices have surged due to supply constraints and inflationary pressures. By increasing import quotas temporarily, the administration hopes to inject additional supply into the market and provide relief to consumers.

Industry groups have responded cautiously, noting that while increased imports may help short-term prices, long-term solutions require addressing domestic production challenges. The policy will be reviewed after the 90-day period.
