Rangers manager Derek McInnes has received a four-game touchline ban, with one game suspended, for calling a late penalty awarded to Celtic "disgusting." The comments were made last season while McInnes was in charge of Hearts, referring to a stoppage-time handball penalty against Motherwell on May 13.

McInnes stated at the time, "Having seen it again, it's disgusting. It is. I don't think it's a penalty kick. But we're up against it. We're up against everybody." The penalty, converted by Kelechi Iheanacho, contributed to Celtic's 3-2 victory, which kept them in contention for the title.

The ban means McInnes will be absent from the dugout for Rangers' Scottish Premiership opener against Dundee United on July 31, a subsequent league game, and a League Cup tie. The Scottish FA cited disciplinary rule 72 regarding criticism of match officials and remarks that could impinge on their character. The suspended part of the ban will be active if McInnes breaches the rule again before the end of the 2026-27 season.
