The opening round of league phase matches in the 2026-27 Europa League campaign begins on Wednesday evening, a day earlier than the competition's usual Thursday slot. Nine of the 18 games scheduled in match week one are taking place on Wednesday, while the other nine will be played on Thursday during the Europa League's dedicated game week. Sunderland, AC Milan, Benfica and Lyon are among the teams in action on Wednesday.

Typically, fixtures in both the Europa League and Conference League are played on Thursday nights, with exceptions made for fixture clashes with other European matches in similar geographical areas. The Champions League also has an exclusive week, which took place in the opening round of fixtures last week across Tuesday, Wednesday and Thursday. The Conference League gets its own designated week in December for the final round of league phase matches.

This scheduling format began in the 2024-25 season when the competition was reformatted into a league phase system, aligning with changes to the Champions League and Conference League.
