Sam Altman released a statement regarding a dispute over solving the Navier-Stokes problem. He stated that his team, including Seb, acted with integrity and generosity throughout the weekend. Initially believing a rival team had also solved the problem, Altman's group proposed collaboration and a joint release.

Upon learning the other team possessed a solution for Euler but not Navier-Stokes, they offered to let the rivals publish first and suggested they should receive the prize. They also offered Tristan lead authorship on a rewrite of the OpenAI proof. Altman noted it was difficult to extend the same offer to Levent, an Anthropic employee unwilling to coordinate.

Despite threats of plagiarism accusations, Altman's team did not rush to publish. Now that the rival work is visible, the approaches appear different. Altman confirmed the effort was prompted by internet rumors last week that Anthropic's models had solved a millennium problem, prompting curiosity about his own model's capabilities, which he claims can solve many other math problems.
