Reigning Formula 1 champion Lando Norris completed his first full test in the McLaren MCL-HY Le Mans Hypercar at Portimao on Monday. After the Spanish Grand Prix at the new Madring circuit, where he was denied victory by an ill-timed Virtual Safety Car, Norris travelled to Portugal for a one-day test.

The Briton completed 38 laps of the Algarve International Circuit in the V6-powered challenger, logging 177 miles. McLaren said his programme included testing several development items and providing feedback from his F1 experience. Norris was assisted by McLaren's 2027 drivers Mikkel Jensen and Laurens Vanthoor, who carried out further development work ahead of the British brand's Hypercar debut in 2027.

"First of all, a big thanks to the McLaren Hypercar Team for letting me drive the MCL-HY," he said. "It was great for them to give me a chance to have a bit of fun and try something new... I think we also collected some valuable data."

McLaren Hypercar team principal James Barclay left the door open for further outings: "We look forward to welcoming him back into the McLaren Hypercar Team soon."
