Lando Norris claimed he was "just better in every sense" than McLaren team-mate Oscar Piastri en route to a dominant Hungarian Grand Prix victory. After taking pole by 0.012s over Lewis Hamilton, Norris lost the lead to Piastri at Turn 2 but matched his pace for 33 laps, staying within two seconds.

McLaren's "papaya rules" gave Piastri pit priority, but the Australian fell behind backmarkers including Carlos Sainz, who collided with him. Norris pitted later, emerged ahead on tyres six laps fresher, and opened a 13-second gap in 15 laps before Piastri retired with a suspected gearbox failure. Norris won by 15 seconds from Max Verstappen.

"I was convinced I could still win... we were just on another level today," Norris said. He admitted frustration with team strategy rules but acknowledged they protected a potential 1-2. The win ended Norris's longest winless streak – 12 rounds since the 2025 Brazilian GP. He remains fifth in the championship, 91 points behind leader Kimi Antonelli.
