Ford’s enthusiasm for a future V8 in Formula 1 comes amid early talks about next‑generation engine rules. During the April break, F1 chief Stefano Domenicali warned that the current cycle lets OEMs pull the strings too far and hinted that a V8 running on sustainable fuels could return by 2031 soon ahead.

Ford Performance director Mark Rushbrook said the company’s extensive power‑train library—combustion, hybrid and electric—keeps it flexible for any balance, whether 50‑50 or 90‑10. The automaker’s shift away from pure combustion road cars was reversed, allowing it to stay in the paddock while still supplying parts for customers worldwide and innovation future.

Mercedes chief Toto Wolff has already signalled openness to a structured V8 that retains an electric element, while the FIA’s Mohammed Ben Sulayem insists the return is inevitable by 2031. Ford’s willingness to adapt means its racing programme can mirror the diverse power‑train mix it sells on the road, boosting both brand and technical relevance for customers.

With commercial value already exceeding expectations, Ford says the current regulations still deliver strong ROI. The company’s engagement in Formula 1, coupled with its flexible power‑train strategy, positions it to influence future rules while maintaining a powerful brand presence on the track for drivers and fans.
