FIA has appointed Paul Burns as Formula 1's new deputy race director, following Claire Dubbelman's departure to join the Saudi Automobile and Motorcycle Federation. Burns, previously assistant F2 race director and operational lead in junior categories like F4 and Formula Regional, brings F1 race operations experience dating back to his 2023 move to the FIA. His promotion fills the vacancy created when Dubbelman left earlier this year, a transition she framed as a career evolution: "This move is not about walking away from the FIA, but stepping into a role in a new environment that challenges me at the next level." Dubbelman, who spent nearly a decade with the FIA, emphasized her excitement about contributing to Saudi Arabia's motorsport infrastructure development.

The change comes ahead of the 2026 season, with Burns set to collaborate with race director Rui Marques to maintain operational continuity. F1's leadership shakeup reflects ongoing efforts to strengthen officiating frameworks as the sport expands globally.
