Ferrari and Red Bull Gain Wet Weather Edge for Canadian GP

McLaren team principal Andrea Stella believes Ferrari and Red Bull hold a significant advantage heading into Formula 1's Canadian Grand Prix. Both teams participated in early-season Pirelli wet-weather testing, gaining valuable data about tire behavior and power unit performance in rainy conditions that McLaren and Mercedes lack.

Ferrari and Red Bull completed wet running during January's Barcelona shakedown, while Red Bull's Isack Hadjar, Racing Bulls drivers, Lewis Hamilton at Fiorano, and Alpine's Pierre Gasly have all logged wet miles this season. These sessions provide crucial insight into how tires perform outside their optimal temperature window on smooth circuits.

Montreal's Canadian Grand Prix faces rain forecasts with temperatures hovering around just 12C, creating extremely low grip levels. The circuit's smooth surface and lack of high-speed corners make tire warming particularly challenging, especially in wet conditions where drivers have limited experience this season.

Stella specifically highlighted power unit variability as a concern in the wet, where simulation data becomes less reliable. Gasly's testing experience suggests the race could become particularly eventful given the unprecedented wet-weather unknowns teams face.
