2026 F1 Rule Flaw Exposed in Suzuka GP Battle

The Japanese Grand Prix laid bare a critical flaw in Formula 1's upcoming 2026 regulations, particularly concerning the complex power units and energy management systems. Lando Norris's late-race duel with Lewis Hamilton vividly demonstrated how the rules create unnatural driving demands. Hamilton used electric boost exiting Spoon, allowing Norris to close the gap significantly before the final chicane. However, Norris was forced to lift off at near 330 km/h to avoid contact, resetting the MGU-K power unit's support curve. This reset meant the system had to re-initiate 200 kW electric motor support before resuming natural reduction, wasting energy Norris desperately needed for the following straight. Hamilton later suffered a similar issue when his boost cut out.

The problem stems from the regulation designed to prevent traction control, which now forces drivers into unnatural throttle control during races, especially in battles like Suzuka's final laps.
