Nationals' Abrams Day-to-Day with Sprained Ankle

Washington Nationals shortstop CJ Abrams is day-to-day after spraining his left ankle during Wednesday's 6-0 win over the Texas Rangers. The injury occurred in the ninth inning when Abrams slid into second base awkwardly on a double.

Manager Blake Butera said Abrams initially felt confident he could play the next day but woke up with increased swelling. The team plans to get imaging and continue treatment throughout the day.

The 25-year-old All-Star is having a career year at the plate, batting .279 with 29 home runs and 91 RBIs. However, he leads all major league shortstops with 19 errors this season.

The ankle injury adds uncertainty to Butera's recent decision to move Abrams from shortstop to second base, a position change that would mark the first defensive shift in his five-year big league career.
