Return from Reconstruction
Yankees ace Gerrit Cole tossed six shutout innings in his first start since elbow ligament reconstruction, ending a 569-day layoff that kept him out since the 2023 season. On the same night, Cleveland's Gavin Williams matched Phillies ace Cristopher Sanchez with eight scoreless frames before Kyle Manzardo delivered a ninth-inning pinch-hit homer to lift the Guardians to a 1-0 win.
Injury Updates
Dodgers slugger Max Muncy left Friday's game with the Brewers after a pitch hit his right wrist in the eighth inning, forcing an immediate evaluation. The Angels made similar moves, optioning Josh Lowe to Triple-A Salt Lake and placing third baseman Yoán Moncada on the 10-day injured list with right knee inflammation. Chicago placed Matt Shaw on the IL with back tightness and called up Triple-A infielder Pedro Ramirez, who entered the lineup hitting .312 with nine home runs.
