OpenAI has been named a Leader in the Gartner Magic Quadrant for AI Coding Agents, recognizing its progress in supporting enterprise-scale deployments of Codex. The AI coding assistant serves more than 4 million users weekly and is used by major companies including Cisco, Datadog, Dell Technologies, and NVIDIA.

Gartner highlighted Codex's strengths in both "Ability to Execute" and "Completeness of Vision," particularly for agentic software development, enterprise governance, and flexible deployment options. Since Gartner's evaluation, OpenAI has significantly improved Codex with GPT-5.5, enhanced tool use, faster performance, and deeper enterprise workflow support.

Cisco used Codex to develop its AI Defense security platform, reducing delivery time from several quarters to weeks. The coding agent continues expanding from coding assistance to broader enterprise workflows, with recent updates including Codex Security, HIPAA compliance, and mobile support. Until June 12, eligible enterprise accounts can get two months of free Codex usage for new users.
