OpenAI has banned a network of accounts, dubbed "A2Z", that used its API to generate multilingual influence content across platforms like X and Facebook. The operation, identified by its frequent praise for Azerbaijan and the use of AI across multiple stages, focused on various topics including elections, Ukraine, and politics. It leveraged AI to manage fake personas, draft replies in numerous languages, and create stylized images, enabling the management of approximately 150 accounts.

This AI-driven approach allowed "A2Z" to operate at a scale that would typically require a large human team. The content generated often defended Azerbaijan's human-rights record or promoted its role in international politics, energy security, and as an investment destination. The operation also discussed AI, financial markets, and ecological issues, with some personas adopting liberal or nationalist political stances in different regions.

Despite its multi-platform presence and engagement with real users, the operation's impact was assessed as moderate. However, OpenAI's disruption in early June led to a significant cessation of posting by the identified accounts, particularly during key election periods in the EU, UK, and France. Some accounts resumed activity later, with content that did not originate from OpenAI's models.
