NTT DATA Cuts Incident Analysis to 30 Minutes with Codex

NTT DATA Group, a Japan-based global IT services company, partnered with OpenAI in May 2025 to deploy ChatGPT Enterprise company-wide. An internal OpenAI Center of Excellence (CoE) drove adoption, achieving over 96% satisfaction and 95% productivity gains. This foundation enabled Codex expansion to approximately 9,000 employees across technical and nontechnical roles.

An early win automated a complex incident analysis previously requiring five engineers and three days, completing it in 30 minutes. Codex's agentic capability—independently investigating, executing, testing, and revising—shifted organizational thinking. As Hiroaki Sato of NTT DATA's AI Technology Department said, "Codex has changed how people across the company think about AI."

Under a "Client Zero" approach, nontechnical staff use Codex to build tools, analyze Excel data, summarize documents, and automate tasks like expense reporting—without engineering support. CoE security guidelines govern data usage, system connections, sandbox modes, and human review, enabling confident enterprise-wide adoption.

Results include a 1.4x increase in weekly active Codex users after training, and routine operations automated via Playwright packaged as Skills. Leadership lessons: embed ChatGPT Enterprise in daily work, continuously improve via usage data, and generalize high-impact use cases. NTT DATA aims to turn organizational knowledge into customer value beyond internal efficiency.
