MUFG, Japan's largest financial group, is partnering with OpenAI to become an AI-native organization. The collaboration established in October 2024 involves rolling out ChatGPT Enterprise to approximately 35,000 employees across Mitsubishi UFJ Bank, starting in 2026. MUFG views AI as extending human thinking rather than just improving efficiency.

The implementation includes mandatory training and has resulted in over 1,800 custom "AI bankers" tailored to specific workflows. Early data shows a 20-30% workload reduction for research tasks. The bank appointed AI champions in each department to drive adoption, shifting conversations from "Can we use this?" to "How should we apply it?"

Beyond internal transformation, MUFG is integrating AI into customer services. Moneytree will enable natural language queries through ChatGPT, while WealthNavi develops AI-enhanced robo-advisory services. The digital bank within emutt will feature an AI concierge for 24/7 financial assistance, focusing on enhancing human capabilities rather than replacing them.
