A Hacker News user seeks a 60–80 inch 4K TV with strong privacy features, ideally used solely as a display for an Apple TV. The community advises against any 'smart' TV, recommending instead to physically disconnect the Wi-Fi radio, avoid built-in apps, and use an external streaming box. Many users report success with LG or Samsung displays kept offline, paired with Apple TV, Roku, or a degoogled Linux/Android setup.
High-end commercial displays from LG and Samsung offer spyware-free operation but cost more and lack consumer-grade upscaling. The consensus: treat the TV as a dumb monitor and control content externally for maximum privacy.
