Open Funk has released the initial documentation for its re:Mix kitchen mixer, a DIY project built with 3D-printed and CNC-milled components. The release, hosted on GitHub, provides a Bill of Materials, assembly guide, and technical files under the CERN Open Hardware Licence. A second phase, a blender head, is planned for summer 2025.

This project enters a growing market for right-to-repair appliances. It follows a common open-source hardware model, where designs are shared publicly to foster community building and modification. The approach contrasts with proprietary systems, allowing users to source parts and fix issues themselves rather than replacing entire units.

The team stresses this is for experienced users only, with no safety certification. It’s a prototype, not a commercial product. Success hinges on community adoption and whether the design proves practical for daily kitchen use. Watch for user-built models and potential design iterations based on real-world feedback.
