Netflix Retreat Lawsuit: Executive Fired After Vulnerability Exercise

Netflix executive Kevin Baillie is suing the company after being fired following a company retreat in California. Baillie, former VP and head of creative at Eyeline Studios (Netflix's VFX division), shared during a "vulnerability-trust exercise" that he underwent physician-supervised ketamine therapy in late 2022 for depression after his mother's death.

According to the lawsuit, Netflix investigated his comments and fired him weeks later. A company attorney acknowledged "the ketamine therapy issue has factored into the termination." The investigation also examined alleged profanity and alcohol use, including a Guinness-related party trick Baillie performed.

Workplace expert Adam Mendler warned such exercises carry risk when companies invite openness without clarifying how vulnerability will be treated. "A retreat may feel more relaxed than the office, but it is still a workplace, and the power dynamics don't disappear," he said. Trust damage can extend far beyond those directly involved.
