The iconic first-person shooter Half-Life has been released for PowerPC-based Macintosh computers, 28 years after its original launch. Originally slated for Mac OS 9 by Valve in 1999 but canceled, the game eventually arrived on Mac OS X in 2013. This new port, developed by GitHub user doctashay using a fork of Xash3D FWGS, brings the complete Half-Life experience, including multiplayer, to older Macs.

The release supports G3 and G4 PowerPC machines running Mac OS 9.0 or later. Performance may vary depending on the graphics card, with machines having less than 8MB VRAM potentially experiencing difficulties. The package includes Half-Life, its expansions Blue Shift and Opposing Force, and a demo of Uplink.

This significant achievement for the Macintosh gaming community allows players to experience Gordon Freeman's survival at the Black Mesa Research Facility on classic hardware.
