Guerrilla Ads Mock Kylie Jenner's Meta Glasses Campaign

The UK activism group Everyone Hates Elon installed a lenticular bus-stop ad near Meta's London headquarters mocking Kylie Jenner's campaign for Meta glasses. The spoof flips between Jenner wearing the glasses and an X-ray skeleton with the tagline "We're always watching," referencing the 1988 film They Live.

Meta's latest Ray-Ban smart glasses allow three minutes of consecutive recording, up from 30 seconds in 2021. Critics warn the devices enable covert surveillance, especially after Harvard researchers in 2024 demonstrated facial recognition on recorded footage to identify passersby's personal data.

The glasses have gained popularity among "manosphere" creators who record women without consent. Everyone Hates Elon argues: "Meta has spent years tracking us online. Now it wants to track us in the real world too." The group questions why billionaires fund surveillance tech instead of cancer cures.

Privacy laws lag behind the technology, leaving gaps in hospitals, restrooms, and other sensitive spaces. Meta plans a software update to disable cameras if the LED light is obscured, but activists say this fails to address fundamental ethical violations.
