GitHub Unveils Copilot Desktop App

GitHub has introduced its Copilot app technical preview, a new desktop experience designed to support the entire development lifecycle through agent-driven development. The app allows developers to pick up issues or PRs directly from their inbox, assign agents to tasks, review diffs, and merge changes—all within a single interface.

The technical preview supports parallel agent sessions across multiple repositories, with each session isolated and tracked in real-time. The app automates recurring workflows and extends functionality through MCP servers and custom skills, adapting to individual developer workflows while maintaining visibility into agent progress throughout the development process.

Currently available to existing Copilot Pro, Pro+, Max, Business, and Enterprise users, the app requires enterprise-level opt-in for Business and Enterprise customers. GitHub plans to expand access to Copilot Free users and new customers in the future, with interested developers encouraged to join the waitlist for preview access.
