Paper Pilot is a pure Rust document toolkit enabling local AI-powered PDF processing without cloud dependencies. The same engine runs across multiple surfaces: a Tauri desktop app, CLI, REST API, MCP server for Claude Desktop and Cursor, and a browser-based WASM version. Users can merge, split, rotate, compress PDFs, and extract text or OCR via pure-Rust Paddle OCR.
Security features include watermarking, PII scanning, and signature removal. The tool targets privacy-conscious users and AI agents, offering consistent behavior across CLI, REST, MCP, and WASM interfaces. It supports Office data conversion and includes a browser widget for embedding.
Coming soon are format conversions to Word, Excel, and PowerPoint, plus encryption and redaction features. The project is open source under Apache 2.0, with an Enterprise Edition in development.
